What is the Sendgrove API base URL?

The Sendgrove API V2 base URL is https://api.sendgrove.com/api/v2. All documented endpoints are relative to that origin.

How do I authenticate with the Sendgrove API?

Send the header X-API-Key: keyId:keySecret on every request (Authorization: Bearer keyId:keySecret is also accepted). Create keys in the Sendgrove dashboard — not via an API write route.

What are the SMTP relay settings?

Host smtp-relay.sendgrove.com, port 587 with STARTTLS. Login is @smtp-sendgrove.com. SMTP uses the same sending credit pool as POST /emails.

We used API V1 — what now?

Public V1 API integrations are disabled. Move to https://api.sendgrove.com/api/v2, the V2 envelope, and X-API-Key auth. Import /openapi.json for the registered route list.

Is there an official Node.js SDK?

Official SDKs are coming soon. Until then, call REST with fetch, axios, or requests. Do not install unofficial packages claiming to be @sendgrove/node.

Q: Can I create API keys via the API?

No. V2 only registers GET routes under /api-keys (requires the keys capability, disabled by default). Create, rotate, and revoke keys in the dashboard.

Q: Why did I get 402 INSUFFICIENT_CREDITS?

The sending or validation credit pool does not cover the requested amount. Check GET /account/credits and top up in the dashboard.

Q: Do campaign sends deduct credits immediately?

No. POST /campaigns/:id/send only pre-checks balance. Each recipient is debited when Sendgrove accepts each message for delivery. POST /emails and bulk deduct upfront.

Q: What is IDEMPOTENCY_CONFLICT?

A request with the same Idempotency-Key is still in progress (or a race occurred). Wait and retry with the same key to receive the cached success response.

Q: Why 503 RATE_LIMIT_UNAVAILABLE?

The rate-limit store is unreachable. The gateway fails closed so traffic is not uncapped. Back off and retry.
